INSTALLING OR CONVERTING TO A MULTI-USER VERSION OF pc/MRP



15.5.1 Install Network Software on the server (If not already installed):




Workgroups for Windows, Windows NT 3.51 Server
  • Go to the server
  • Insert Windows for Workgroups disk 1
  • Enter A:[Rtn]
  • Enter SETUP to start the setup
  • Configure this PC as a server and name it SERVER
  • When installation is completed reboot the computer
  • Enter NET START at the DOS prompt before starting Windows


Windows NT 4.0 Server
  • Load Windows NT 4.0 software.
  • When prompted:
    • Add Client, Select Microsoft Server Client
    • Add Addapter, Select Anthem NE 2000 for generic NE 2000 card
    • Add protocal, select Nelbaui Protocal
    • Enter computer name, server
    • Enter workgroup name and computer description.

Windows 95 Server
  • Load the Windows 95 software
  • Select Start, Settings, Control Panel
  • Select Network
  • Select Configuration Tab, Add
    • Select Add Client(Microsoft Server Client)
    • Select Add Adapter(Select your adapter card, Anthem NE2000 for generic NE2000 card)
    • Select Add Protocol(Netbeui Protocol)
  • Back to Configuration Tab
    • Select File and Print Sharing
    • Check on Give Access to Others
  • Select Identification Tab
    • Enter computer name SERVER, workgroup name, and computer description
  • Select Access Tab
    • Check on Share-level access control
  • Click OK to exit.

Invisible 3.XX
  • Load Invisible disk 1 into the server's A:drive
  • Type A:SETUP30
  • Select Copy files to hard disk
  • Select Load create initialization file
  • Select Easy Configuration
  • Select Network
  • Enter name for server SERVER
  • Select card type Inv2000 for adapter dependent
  • NE2000 for Adapter Independent
  • Select Y to the prompt "Install file server"
  • Select LPT1 at the prompt Network Printer #1
  • Press F9 then to exit
  • Select "Save initialization file"
  • Reboot, type NET30 to start network



15.5.2 Install a new multi-user version of pc/MRP for Windows on the network server:


Invisible, Lantastic, WGFW, Windows NT 3.51 Server
  • Go to the server
  • Start Windows by typing WIN[Rtn]
  • Place pc/MRP Multiuser disk 1 in drive A:
  • Select File
  • Select Run and enter A:SETUP [Rtn]
  • Enter the drive and directory to install pc/MRP (ie C:\PCMRPW)
  • Insert the remaining disks when prompted
  • Click on the pc/MRP icon
  • Enter a password for pc/MRP
  • Enter your company name,address, and phone
  • Exit pc/MRP,Attribute 7 files read only PCMRPW.EXE, FOXW2600.ESL, CONFIG.FPW, FOXFONT.FON, MSG.DBF, FOXTOOLS.FLL,

Windows NT 4.0 Server
  • Go to the Server
  • Click on Start
  • Select Setting
  • Select Control Panel
  • Click on Add Software
  • Insert pc/MRP Disk 1
  • Insert the remaining disks when prompted.
  • Click on the pc/MRP icon.
  • Enter a password for pc/MRP.
  • Enter your company name, address and phone.

Windows 95 Server
  • Go to the server
  • Place pc/MRP Multiuser disk 1 in drive A:
  • Select Run and enter A:SETUP]Rtn]
  • Enter the drive and directory to install pc/MRP (ie C:\PCMRPW[Rtn] )
  • Insert the remaining disks when prompted
  • Click on the pc/MRP icon
  • Enter a password for pc/MRP
  • Enter your company name, address, and phone
  • Exit pc/MRP,Attribute 7 files read only: PCMRPW.EXE, FOXW2600.ESL, CONFIG.FPW, FOXFONT.FON, MSG.DBF, FOXTOOLS.FLL

Novell Server
  • Go to a work station
  • Log in as "Supervisor"
  • Enter the supervisor's password
  • Start Windows by typing WIN[Rtn]
  • Place pc/MRP Multiuser disk 1 in drive A:
  • Select File
  • Select Run and enter A:SETUP [Rtn]
  • Enter the drive and directory to install pc/MRP (i.e. F:\PCMRPW[Rtn]
  • Insert the remaining disks when prompted
  • Click on the pc/MRP icon
  • Enter a password for pc/MRP
  • Enter your company name,address, and phone
  • Exit pc/MRP, Flag 7 files shareable read only: PCMRPW.EXE, FOXW2600.ESL, CONFIG.FPW, FOXFONT.FON, MSG.DBF, FOXTOOLS.FLL, (flag pcmrpw.exe +SRO)



15.5.3 Converting an existing single user version of pc/MRP for Windows to a multi-user version:


If the server is WGFW, Windows NT 3.51, Lantastic, Invisible

  • Copy existing single user version of pc/MRP to server
  • Start up pc/MRP
  • Select Configuration
  • Select About pc/MRP
  • Press the Control and U keys
  • Select Multi-user
  • Enter activation number_______________
  • Attribute 7 files read only: PCMRPW.EXE, FOXW2600.ESL, CONFIG.FPW, FOXFONT.FON, MSG.DBF, FOXTOOLS.FLL, SMARTMRP.EXE

If the server is Windows NT 4.0
  • Copy existing single user version of PCMRP to server.
  • Start up pc/MRP
  • Select Configuration
  • Select About pc/MRP
  • Press the Control and U keys
  • Select Multi-user
  • Enter activation number_______________


If the server is Novell
  • Copy existing single user version of pc/MRP to server
  • Start up pc/MRP
  • Select Configuration
  • Select About pc/MRP
  • Press the Control and U keys
  • Select Multi-user
  • Enter activation number_______________
  • Attribute 7 files read only: PCMRPW.EXE, FOXW2600.ESL, CONFIG.FPW, FOXFONT.FON, MSG.DBF, FOXTOOLS.FLL
For Windows 95

15.5.4 Configure the Server to share it's C drive and the PCMRPW directory:


Windows for Workgoups/Windows NT 3.51 Server
  • Go to Program Manager, select Main
  • Select File Manager
  • Click on the drive you wish to share C
  • Enter share as SVR_CDRV
  • Select Reshare at Startup
  • Select Full for Access, click on OK
  • Change SYSTEM.INI toPrintBufTime=60
  • Click on Disk, select Chare As

Windows NT 4.0 Server
  • Go to Explorer
  • Right Click on C drive
  • Select Sharing
  • Select Share as SVR_CDRV
  • Select Full Access
  • Return to Explorer and right click the pc/MRP directory.
  • Select Sharing
  • Select Full Access

Windows 95 Server
  • Go to Explorer or My Computer
  • Right Click on C drive
  • Select Sharing
  • If Sharing is not available
  • ...Go back to step 15.5.1
  • ...Select File and Print Sharing
  • ... --OR--
  • ...Go Back to Start Button
  • ...Select Settings,Control Panel,Network
  • ...Select File and Print Sharing
  • Select Share as SVR_CDRV
  • Select full
  • You may have to share the PCMRP directory as well.

Invisible 3.X server
  • Step 1, above will automatically share drive C

Lantastic 6.0 Server
  • CD\LANTASTI [Rtn]
  • NET_MGR [Rtn]
  • Select Shared Resources
  • Enter resource name CDRIVE
  • Enter resource path C:\


15.5.5 Connect the Workstation to the server (if not already connected):



Windows for Workgroups, Windows NT 3.50 at work stations
  • From Program Manager, select Main
  • Select File Manager
  • Select Disk
  • Select Connect Network Drive
  • Accept the next available F
  • Leave the path blank or F:\
  • Check reconnect at startup
  • Check always browse
  • Select the server in the show shared directory window
  • Click on the server drive in the lower shared directory window

Windows 95, or Win NT 4.0 at work stations
  • Select Start, Settings, Control Panel
  • Select Network
  • Select Configuration Tab
  • ...Select Add Adapter(Select your card)
  • ...Select Add Client(Microsoft Server Client)
  • ...Select Add Protocol(Netbeui)
  • Select Identification Tab
  • Enter computer name PC1,group name, computer description
  • To map (connect to) the network drive
  • Start here
  • ...Go to the desktop
  • ...Select Network Neighborhood
  • ...Double-Click on the server
  • ...Right click on server's C drive
  • ...Select MAP
  • ...Enter a drive name F:
  • Check reconnect at log in
  • Click OK go back to Explorer
  • Click on the new network drive

  • Start here to map the drive
  • Go to the desktop
  • Select Network Neighborhood
  • Select Tools and Map Network Drive from the menu
  • Enter a drive name F:
  • Browse to the folder or drive where pc/MRP resides
  • Check reconnect at log in
  • Click OK go back to Explorer
  • Click on the new network drive
  • C ON SERVER(F:)
  • Go to step 15.5.6

Invisible 3.X at workstations
  • Type SETUP30 at the DOS prompt
  • Select Load create Initialization file
  • Select Easy configuration
  • Select Network
  • Enter a network name PC1
  • Select the network hardware type
  • Press F9 and [Esc] to exit
  • Select Advanced configurations
  • Select Drive Mappings
  • Select F: as the server drive
  • Enter the servers name SERVER and drive C:
  • Save the initialization file, reboot
  • Enter NET30 to start network

Novell at workstations
  • Type SYSCON
  • Select users
  • Assign all pc/MRP users to a group named MRP
  • Assign create, delete, write, modify rights to the group
  • Select the name of the user
  • Select Login script
  • -MAP J:=SERVER/SYS:PCMRPW
  • -MAP S1:=SERVER/SYS:PCMRPW
  • -DRIVE F:
  • -CAPTURE L=1 P=0 TI=60
  • -PCMRPW

15.5.6 Create a pc/MRP icon/shortcut at each workstation:


Novell, Lantastic, Invisible with Windows 3.1 workstations
  • Entering WIN [Rtn] at the DOS prompt
  • Click on File
  • Click on NEW
  • Click on Program Group Properties
  • Enter Description "pc/MRP for Windows"
  • Click on File again
  • Click on New
  • Click on Program Item Properties
  • Enter Description "pc/MRP for Windows"
  • Command "F:\PCMRPW\PCMRPW.EXE" (assumes F: is network drive)
  • Enter working directory "F:\PCMRPW"

Windows 95/NT4.0 workstations
  • Right click on desktop area
  • Select New
  • Select Shortcut
  • Select Browse
  • Select the drive pc/MRP is located on
  • Select the folder pc/MRP is located on
  • Double click on PCMRPW.EXE

    OR

  • Click on Start, select Programs
  • Select Windows Explorer
  • Go to the window to the right
  • Double click on the pcmrpw folder
  • Scroll over to the PCMRPW.EXE file
  • Right click/drag PCMRPW.EXE to desktop
  • Select Create Shortcut














15.5.7 Allow pcmrpw.exe but not users using explorer, to edit or delete pc/MRP files:


Windows NT 4.0 (must be logged in as the administrator)
  • Use Explorer to locate the pcmrpw folder
  • Right click on the pcmrpw folder
  • Select sharing
  • Select security
  • Select permissions
  • Select type of Access "Special File Access"
  • Check the Read Check Box
  • Check the Write Check Box
  • Check the Execute Check Box
